Biomimetics International is a not-for-profit industry association dedicated to uniting and amplifying the people, organizations, and ideas driving nature-inspired innovation.
By bringing together the diverse facets of nature-inspired innovation and design, biomimicry and biomimetic practices, the association creates a powerful, collective voice for this industry’s transformational approaches to human and planet resilience.
For nearly four billion years, life has run the most relentless R&D program on Earth. It has been testing structures, materials, and strategies against the only metric that ever mattered: survival. The results are all around us. The fracture-resistance of bone. The distributed intelligence of an ant colony. The climate logic of a forest canopy. Biomimetics is the discipline of reading those results with rigor, then abstracting the biological principle, mapping it to a human problem, and verifying that the result outperforms what we were doing before.
Biomimicry is the practice. Biomimetics is the industry. And right now, that industry is fragmented.
Fragmentation is the problem we were built to solve.
Founded in 2024, Biomimetics International is a not-for-profit industry association uniting researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, educators, and policymakers who have largely worked alone — brilliant ideas stranded for lack of the right collaborator, the right capital, the right policy. We do what nature does best at every scale that works: connect the parts into something the parts could never become on their own.

We advocate for policy that treats biomimetics as critical infrastructure for resilience rather than a curiosity.

All of it lives inside what we call the BiosVerse™, the interconnected living systems that sustain this planet and the standard against which every innovation is finally judged. The last century taught us a blunt lesson: solutions that ignore those systems are rejected by them.
The pressures are converging now: climate instability, resource scarcity, biodiversity loss, and supply chains strained well beyond their design limits. The most elegant and resilient answers were field-tested outside, in our shared BiosVerse(™) over geological time. Whether you build materials, design buildings, move capital, shape curricula, or write policy, there's a place for you in this work. The question isn't whether nature's blueprints can scale. It's how fast we're willing to build the industry that enables them to come together.
Why an association is so important for building the industry.
Biomimetics International is organized as a 501(c)(6) trade association. That status is not incidental; it is what makes this work legally possible. The 501(c)(6) designation enables pre-competitive collaboration among companies that compete fiercely in commercial markets. It includes documented antitrust safe harbors, board-level conflict protocols, written participation rules, and the formal scaffolding that allows our members to sit at the same table and shape a recognition framework without exposing any participant to Sherman Act or Section 1 risk.
